Maximum solvent retention with SmartCap technology

In reaction profiling, it is essential to take multiple samples throughout the experiment to monitor the reaction’s progress. However, each sampling event involves removing an aliquot from the reaction mixture, necessitating careful monitoring of the total volume of the reaction over time. A key challenge is solvent evaporation, which can cause concentration variability and precipitation, leading to irreproducible results. This issue is particularly problematic when samples are taken through a pierced septum, allowing solvent to escape.

The ReactALL™ system addresses this issue by utilizing the SmartCap™ for sampling through the impeller shaft, eliminating the need to repeatedly pierce a septum and maintain reactor integrity. This design effectively prevents solvent evaporation, thereby maintaining the consistency of the reaction mixture’s concentration throughout the experiment.

This application note presents an experimental evaluation of solvent retention conducted by Hawkins et al.[1] using the ReactALL system, demonstrating its effectiveness in minimizing solvent loss.
